Intel was founded on July 18, 1968, as Integrated Electronics Corporation (though a common misconception is that "Intel" is from the wordintelligence) and is based in Santa Clara, California, USA


Intel  makes microprocessors,  motherboard chipsets, network interface controllers andintegrated circuits, flash memory, graphic chips, embedded processors, and other devices related to communications and computing. 


 Intel combines advanced chip design capability with a leading-edge manufacturing capability.

In the 1980s, Intel was among the top ten sellers of semiconductors (10th in 1987) in the world.

Competitors in PC chip sets include VIA Technologies, SiS, and Nvidia. 

Intel's competitors in networking include Freescale, Infineon, Broadcom, Marvell Technology Group and AMCC,

competitors in flash memory include Spansion, Samsung, Qimonda, Toshiba, STMicroelectronics, and Hynix.
